The Bayelsa State Government has inaugurated a five-man Administrative Panel of Enquiry to address issues of litigation affecting Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Inaugurating the Panel on behalf of
Governor Seriake Dickson, the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha
John Jonah (rtd), charged the Panel to painstakingly carry out the
assignment.
According to him, the terms of reference
of the Panel include; reviewing of cases instituted against the State
Government and its Agencies in various courts, ascertain the processes
of possible re-seating of cases where judgements have been obtained and
highlighting of cases where judgements where entered against Government
Agencies and determine the conduct of officials of such Agencies.
Furthermore, the Panel is also expected
to critically look into cases involving the Bayelsa State Independent
Electoral Commission and determine the extent of collusion of officials
of the Commission in the handling of cases instituted against it.
Responding, Chairman of the Panel, Barr.
Preye Agedah assured the State Government that the Panel, Given the
quality of its membership will discharge the task creditably.
He also promised that the Panel will not
witch-hunt anybody but will only protect the interest of Government,
with a view to ensuring that the system works more effectively for the
overall benefit of all.
Membership of the Panel includes; Barr.
Preye Agedah as Chairman, Dr. Josephine Lloyd, Dr John Idumange and Boma
Bromlo-Jack as member while Mr. Ovie Victor is to serve as secretary.
The Panel which will look into cases from 2007 to date, has two weeks to submit its report.
