Orubebe CON was in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Capital today in
continuation of the Ministry’s 5-Day Working Visit to the Region.
Where he was received by the Executive Governor of the State Rt. Hon.
Seriake Dickson.

In his address the Minister Stated that today is an Historic day for
both the Ministry and the State as Bayelsa State remains an all
important and strategic State in the Region and Nation at large. He
highlighted the purpose of the visit as an opportunity stressing the
achievements of the Ministry most especially the East-West Road which
was awarded 2006 by the Obasanjo’s administration without any detailed design and financial Plans which foiled the project.

The Minister restated that the visit is an all important one to inform
the State of the Ministry’s Plan on convening a National Council of
the Niger Delta where all Stakeholders will collaborate and discuss Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow... The way forward for the Region.

In his RESPONSE the Host Governor thanked the Minster for the visit and
pledged his commitment to the development of the Region by presenting
his total support for the Minister. He noted that development is all about
Process and Framework not an OVERNIGHT Venture which the people need to know

Describing The Honourable Minister as a SILENT ACHIEVER who has
written his name in History Book of The Niger Delta and urged him to
remain focus on his plans for the Region and lauded the idea of the
Summit as a Good Venture to give the Niger Delta a Big Boost for the
Nation which his Blue Print to develop the Nation despite the heat of Negative criticism.

REFUTAL OF COMMENTS ATTRIBUTED TO THE OJORO OF IJORA (OBA FATAI AROMIRE) AND APPEARING IN BOTH PRINT AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA, WITH RESPECT TO BAYELSA STATE GOV’TS PROPERTY SITUATE AT. 251 APAPA ROAD, IJORA, LAGOS

The attention of the managing director of Bayelsa Property and Investment Company Limited, Mr. Azana Azazi, has been drawn to a number of recent print and electronic media articles attributed to the Oba of Ijora in Lagos State. According to the said PUBLICATIONS, the Oba of Ijora apparently blames the Bayelsa State Government for abandoning a property used by suspected terrorists in Ijora to store arms and as a hideout for suspected terrorists. The Oba is also apparently urging the Lagos State Government to revoke the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of the property belonging to Bayelsa State.

While it is true that Bayelsa State Government owns a property in Ijora (located at No. 251 Apapa Road), we want to state unequivocally, and with reference to page 6 of the Punch newspaper, of Tuesday 26th 2013, that the apprehended culprit was not arrested at the said property belonging to Bayelsa State Government. Neither were any arms or bomb manufacturing materials found at the said property belonging to Bayelsa State. Rather, the suspected terrorist, arms and bomb manufacturing materials were found at No. 24 Aromire Street Ijora, which is two streets away from No. 251 Apapa Road, (about a distance of 1km) and is in no way connected to Bayelsa State.

 It should be noted that a thorough search was carried out by the relevant security agencies at No. 251 Apapa Road, belonging to Bayelsa State, and no incriminating evidence was found. It should also be noted that Bayelsa State has not at any time abandoned her property in Ijora, rather the property has several warehouses with lawful tenants, and is protected by 24 hour armed security. Therefore the insinuation attributed to the Oba of Ijora is incorrect and should be entirely disregarded by the public.

KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GENUINE & FAKE SOCIAL MEDIA PERSONS

With rumour mongers, fifth columnists and mischief makers working hard to undermine the gains of the Restoration Administration, it is pertinent for the public to differentiate between genuine and fake social media practitioners. The difference is like light and darkness but some people may not know because of lack of interest in what goes on in the cyber space.
1. A genuine social media person uses his/her face and Identity such as pictures but a fake social media person either uses either some other Identity or his/her identity in such a way that other friends will not recognize the picture. For example, If you see a facebook profile with a picture that is not clear or any other object (s) in place of the picture, then know that the person is fake. Because they use fake identities, they can maintain multiple facebook pages with different names and identities. Their intentions are sinister and wicked. Watch out for people with such traits.

2. A genuine social media person provides information about his/her background such as City/ town/Community, family name, marital status, educational background etc. If you check a person’s profile with very scanty bio data, then spend sometimes to monitor the person’s activities and soon you will be convinced that the person is fake.

3. A genuine social media person will be proud to show you the pictures of his relatives and friends and identify with them in special occasions. You can hardly see this from fake social media practitioners. This is why the saying “show me your friends and I will tell you who you are” is applicable. For example, fake facebookers can hardly identify with close friends and work as a team. Their identities are fictitious so they are not proud of what they do. Soon, this inferiority complex degenerates to narcissistic tendencies. In most cases, for fear of being exposed, they have very few known friends and may not be ready to connect with even the few friends they have. Such fake persons demonize the facebook.

4. Real social media practitioners are guided by the ethics of the journalism profession but the fake persons throw the ethics to the dustbin. Because of the flagrant disregard for these ethics, fake social media people deliberately make friends with and even pay hackers and wire tappers. Hacking and wiretapping are criminal activities that society must condemn. Their stock in trade is to send viruses, display obscenity in pictures as well as on youtube. In extreme cases, they even spread viruses to damage the gadgets of others.

5. Fake social media persons do not make any meaningful contributions in respect of information dissemination, education and entertainment (the three most important functions of the mass media). The public will know them because on any social media platform, any contribution one makes is attributed to the person. The contributions of a man are not hidden. “By their fruits you will know them”.

6. Like any other media, social media practitioners are supposed to protect human rights, public safety and the interest of the masses as against petty parochial interest. Genuine social media practitioners try to achieve these ideals through objective criticism of public policies, fair assessment of people and what they stand for and using the TRUTH as a weapon even in very contentious arguments. On the contrary, fake social media persons shy away from objectivity and truth. Their arguments are always tilted and titrated to fit with their personal interests. They are the first to break bad news and most often, a huge percentage of the content they publish are negative, anti-people and anti-establishment. Their vehicles to create disaffection are rumours, half-truths and outright falsehood. To be contd.

WHY I STOPPED N250M MONTHLY PAY TO X-MILLITANTS--DICKSON

Bayelsa Government Supports the Olotu Awards

The Government of Bayelsa State has re-stated its commitment to encouraging youths who make sacrificial contributions to community and society genuinely in any area of endeavours.

The state Commissioner for Culture and Ijaw National Affairs, Dr. Felix Tuodolo, stated this while speaking as the Patron at the official launch of the Olotu Awards Project in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital.

The Commissioner said as Ijaw people: we are honest, hardworking, hospitable and diligent, not as misrepresented in recent times because of our stance for justice against under development.

Dr. Tuodolo also said; “our subscription to the Olotu Awards Project is consequent upon our resolve as a Ministry and people, to be true to the shared values of our founding fathers, especially at times like this where awards are monetized and politicized.

Also speaking, the Initiator of the Olotu Awards and CEO of Pink Diamonds, Maria Glover, said the Award is aimed at repositioning the negative spotlight of the media on the Ijaw Youths.

She said the youths of the region have engaged in militancy and arms struggle and as such been branded names such as hoodlums, vandals, terrorists, etc due to their fight against the oppression and marginalization of their territories.

The Olotu Awards Initiator however said that in spite of this, there are ordinary Ijaw Youths who are living lives of bravery, courage, selflessness and succeeding in their various endeavours despite the challenges of poverty, physical disabilities, illiteracy, disease, depravity, environmental pollution and more.

These youths who have not engaged in the negative vices associated with us are the “real heroes”, she says, and we want to “recognize, celebrate, reward and award that Bayelsan youth between the ages of 15 – 25 years, as a different approach to join the fight against the negative perception about us.” Maria Glover therefore called for entries from all the 8 Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State for youths who fit this description, saying that 3 persons would be nominated from each Local Government Area, and would be televised in April this year on various local, national and international television stations to enable the public vote for their favourite stories/persons that should be the “Olotu”.

She also said that the Award will culminated in a grand finale May18, 2013 in Yenagoa, where the potential 4 finalists would be recognised and awarded, with the First Prize given in honour of the late Major Isaac Adaka Boro, due to his commitment to the emancipation of the Izon people. Entries for the Awards will close May 28, 2013.  

On his part, the Royal Father of the day, the chairman of the Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Godwin Igodo thanked Pink Diamonds for initiating the Olotu Awards project and for their commitment to the vision which is aimed at re-branding the negative image of the Ijaw youths of Bayelsa State.

36 YEAR MAN BUILD LIGHT PLANE IN BRASS LGA: BAYELSA STATE

Unemployment or under employment need not keep anyone from fulfilling their dreams says a young man from Brass in Bayelsa state, who in homestead has built a light plane that he hopes will fly someday soon.

36 year old Ifiemi Felagha, works with an oil servicing firm but spent all his free time in the past eight years working on living his light plane dream and he’s seen it through by building a light plane, named Destiny.

According to the parent of this young man without tertiary education, has had a knack for putting things together since his childhood.

The aircraft is however yet to take-off because Ifiemi is not a trained Pilot. He is now consulting with aviation experts but for now, he keeps moving the aircraft on his make-shift runway.

And recognizing the potency of the Social Media as a tool for development engineering, Your Excellency, appointed a Senior Special Assistant on Research & Social Media to superintendent, standardize and reawaken the consciousness of Social Media practitioners in the State. You did not stop there. Your Excellency inaugurated the BAYELSA SOCIAL MEDIA COMMITTEE to use the instrumentality of the platform to articulate the policies and programmes of this administration. The Committee has continued to discharge its functions with unwavering equanimity, resolved and committed to the Restoration Agenda. Beyond her statutory functions, the Committee has also engaged in cross-cutting issues such as interfacing with MDAs, charting clear road-maps for increased productivity, and conducting opinion polls including the use of standardized sociometric techniques to measure sectoral performance.
We are pleased that Your Excellency has always supported the Social Media enterprise in Bayelsa State, including sponsorship of her members to the first ever World SOCIAL MEDIA WEEK in February, 2013, in Lagos-Nigeria. By your policies and programmes, Your Excellency, has proved to be the most social media friendly Governor in Nigeria and this is why we are resolved and more determined to project the achievements of the Restoration Administration.
