President Goodluck Jonathan denounced
critics of his administration saying much of the criticisms against his
government were “based on lies.”
Addressing members of the Nigerian community in Brazil, Tuesday,
Jonathan urged the political class not to sacrifice the progress and
well-being of the nation on the altar of personal political ambitions.
While answering questions on the current
state of the country, the President denounced criticism of his
administration saying much of criticisms were “based on lies.”
He also cautioned politicians in the country not to allow their personal interests throw the nation into anarchy.
On the deteriorating security situation
in the country, Jonathan told the gathering that government was working
hard to contain the current spate of bombings and attacks.
Laos yesterday, Information Minister
Labaran Maku fired back at critics of Jonathan’s trip to Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil for the United Nations’ Earth Summit.
Briefing newsmen after the weekly
Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting yesterday, Maku said there was
no vacuum in government as the President can rule from any part of the
world.
According to Maku “The President can
take decision from anywhere in the world his absence will not hamper his
power to act. The Vice President effectively takes charge of affairs
once the president is out of Nigeria and he is in touch with the
President on hourly basis.
“There is no vacuum, the most important
thing is that the president and the vice work harmoniously and are in
constantly in touch.
“If the President panics what will the
people do. We must stop making politics out of the unfortunate incidence
going on in Northern Nigeria.”
